VIDEO: State Senators Want to Stop MTA Payroll Tax
Senators Jack Martins and Lee Zeldin introduced a bill to provide tax relief for Long Islanders.
In 2009, the was enacted, forcing taxpayers to pay a .34 percent tax for every $100 of payroll to pay the MTA.
In December of 2011, legislation was signed to for businesses with a payroll of $1.25 million or less as well as public and private schools.
Libraries, counties, towns and villages are still required to pay the tax. Senators , R-Mineola, and Lee Zeldin, R-Shirley, as well as others are trying to , holding a press conference at the Friday afternoon detailing their plans.
