Here are the top stories in Mineola today:

  1. U.S. Representative Tom Suozzi has announced he will be running for governor of New York in 2022. Suozzi, a Democrat, currently represents NY's 3rd District, which includes most of the North Shore of Long Island, and parts of Northwestern Queens and Suffolk County. Suozzi said his priorities are reducing property taxes and crime throughout the state, as well as protecting the environment. (The Island Now)
  2. A 35-year-old man who was running in Hempstead Monday night was struck by a NICE bus and killed, according to Nassau County police. The man was running south on Main Street at 11:06 p.m. and was hit by a westbound bus on West Columbia Street. The man, whose name has not been released, suffered serious trauma and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died. (Garden City Patch)
  3. The American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Eastern Division High School Honor Choir has accepted six students from Mineola High School: Matthew (Checkers) Bischoff, Bridget Cunningham, Isabella Galan, James Keesee, Aidan Levin and Alexis Panebianco. These students competed against and were chosen from singers in 11 states. In February, they will go to the ACDA Eastern Division conference in Boston, where they will rehearse and perform with an award-winning conductor. (The Island Now)
