- A suspect fleeing arrest at the Roosevelt Field parking lot in East Garden City Monday night led police on a chase that ended in Mineola when he drove into an Emergency Services truck at the corner of Barwick Boulevard and Hill Street. Nassau County police said they approached Robert Reaves, 25, of Brooklyn at the mall for driving a stolen car; he fled and injured five officers until he was caught. Reaves was recently arrested on Jan. 1 on an open warrant from an April 7, 2021, arrest for an assault in Rockville Centre. (Mineola Patch)
- The rush hour subway shooting in Brooklyn on Tuesday that injured 13 people has led locals to mournfully remember the 1993 mass shooting on an LIRR train in Mineola. Colin Ferguson was reportedly outraged following a dispute with the New York State Worker's Compensation Board when he opened fire on a rush hour train, killing six people and wounding 19 others.
