Here are the top stories in Mineola today:
- Two women were arrested on Thursday for allegedly stealing Apple iPhones and Apple watches from six T-Mobile stores in Nassau County, including locations on West Jericho Turnpike in Mineola, Old Country Road in Westbury, and Stewart Avenue in Garden City. The suspects, Lanizja Myers, 19, of Rosedale, Queens and Elyanni Sesay, 19, of Brooklyn, reportedly threatened employees who tried to stop the thefts by pulling out a taser and pepper spray. - The Town of North Hempstead unanimously voted to approve a budget of $156.8 million for 2022 on Oct. 28. Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth, who is retiring from her role, said that the budget stays within New York State's tax cap and that the general fund tax levy increased by only 2.9 percent, which is an average increase of $9.20 per household. - An associate professor of writing studies at Hofstra University in Hempstead is set to appear as one of the first contestants on the new Professors Tournament on Jeopardy! Dr. Lisa Dresner, also the head of Hofstra's LBGTQ+ Studies Program, will be competing on Dec. 8. (Garden City Patch)
