Here are the top stories today in Mineola:
- Sewanhaka High School teacher Tricia Manno was indicted and accused of submitting a forged COVID-19 vaccine card to fulfill the district's requirement of providing proof of vaccination or undergoing weekly testing. "Submitting fraudulent documents is a crime, and in this case, one that put the health and safety of students and staff at risk,"said Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly. Manno, a 47-year-old Lindenhurst resident, pleaded not guilty. (Patch)
- The Mineola Fire Department and Boy Scouts Troop 45 of Mineola have asked the Village of Mineola board if they can take over organizing Mineola's annual Memorial Day Parade this year. The parade was on hold the last two years due to COVID-19. In the past, Mineola VFW Post 1305 organized the parade, but the veteran group has since closed due to low membership. Mineola Mayor Paul Pereira said that the board is very enthusiastic about the fire department and Boy Scout troop carrying on the tradition. (The Island 360)
- New Hyde Park-based Northwell Health has partnered with the military in war-torn Ukraine to provide telemedicine services to its soldiers, civilians and refugees. The platform will allow Northwell to collaborate with experts on higher-level cases in the operating room and aid in combat trauma and other procedures. (Patch)
