Here are the top stories in Mineola today:

  1. Three Nassau County men were charged with stealing more than $10,000 worth of merchandise from two local Marshalls stores, according to police. Detectives arrested Willie White, 55, of Hempstead, Rodney Galloway, 53, of Westbury and Michele Brown, 24, of Baldwin without incident for allegedly stealing from a Marshalls in North Lawrence on six different dates throughout January, and then stealing from another Marshalls at 600 Hempstead Turnpike in Elmont on Feb. 21. (Mineola Patch)
  2. With Mardi Gras — also known as Fat Tuesday — less than two weeks away on March 1, plenty of Cajun restaurants here on Long Island are available to dine in and celebrate. And there is no need to leave Mineola, as Biscuits and Barbecue at 106 East 2nd St. serves up authentic dishes like alligator sausage, smoked barbecued half chicken, and a heaping portion of biscuits and gravy. (Long Island Press)
  3. The Farm Laborer Wage Board recently voted to advocate that the threshold for farm workers to receive overtime pay be reduced from 60 to 40 hours per week. This increase in farm worker rights follows the first group of farm laborers joining a union: Mineola-based Local 338 union, which represents grocery store and pharmacy workers, among others. Unfortunately, farm worker rights are currently at odds with small farms who are struggling to stay afloat. (Dan's Papers)
