Village Codebook Now Available on Mineola Village Website

Online codebook is fully searchable and organized.

Mineola residents now have complete access to the village’s code book of laws and regulations from the comfort of their home computers.

“If anybody had the chance to go on this afternoon, the village code is on the front page of the website,” village clerk Joseph Scalero said at the village hall during Wednesday night’s meeting of the village board.

The full text of the code is present on the village website under “quick links” and is also searchable for keywords and terms. Clicking on a regulation will bring the reader to that specific area of the codebook.

The Village of Mineola had undertaken a complete recodification process of its village codebook, which included correcting various errors and bringing the code more into line with other regulations form the state.

General Code, the country’s leading codebook company, was selected as the vendor for the recodification project, the last revision of which was completed in the 1960’s.

The goal was to have an up-to-date code that gives every resident in the village to go to one book and see al the law and to have a version that can be placed online for immediate public access through the internet.

Technical and grammatical errors were corrected as well as names of state agencies whose names have changed or public officers whose titles have changed were updated.

“It’s a very clean, basic look,” Scalero said of the online edition. “It’s such a remarkable difference between the old version and the new one.”
