Watch: Ice Bucket Challenge Spreads to Port's Bravest from Port Washington, Wisconsin's Bravest
Firefighters help boost ALS fundraising and awareness, challenging North Shore fire departments in the process.

The ice bucket challenge has taken on a new twist. This time around, the Port Washington, Wisconsin, Fire Department nominated the Port Washington, New York, Fire Department. And on Tuesday, Port Washington’s Bravest on Long Island agreed to the challenge.
Overnight firefighters from Port Washington – New York, that is – raised $600, and the number continues to grow, said Michael Tedeschi, the fire department’s chairman.
The initiative challenges people to either donate $100 to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, and to dump ice water on their heads within 24 hours of being nominated. As of Tuesday, the ALS Association announced the movement has received $22.9 million in donations compared to $1.9 million last year. See photos of Long Islanders who took the challenge here.
