Westbuy Man Drove Drunk With 7-Month-Old Daughter in the Car: Cops

The baby was released to her mother, who was a passenger in the car.

HEMPSTEAD, NY - A Westbury man was charged with driving drunk with his 7-month-old daughter in the car in Hempstead on Saturday morning, according to Nassau County Police.

A Highway Patrol Officer saw 34-year-old Juan Aristires Alvarenga Ortiz driving his 2006 Toyota erratically heading north on Peninsula Boulevard at about 3:08 a.m., police said.

Officers found that he was under the influence of an alcoholic beverage, according to police.

In addition, his daughter was restrained in a car seat in the rear driver’s side, police said.

Ortiz was placed into police custody and the child was released to her 26-year-old mother who was a front seat passenger, according to police.

No injuries were reported and the car was impounded.

Ortiz is charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated (Leandra’s Law), endangering the welfare of a child, driving while intoxicated and numerous traffic law violations.

He was arraigned in Hempstead on Sunday.
