William Sokol, Ex-Marine, 61

Former Mineola resident passed away after battle with cancer on November 25.

William Sokol passed away on Nov. 25, 2012 at his home after a battle with cancer at the age of 61.

Sokol was born in Mineola, NY and resided in Long Island until moving to Cranford in the 1980’s.

For 30 years he was an interior renovator for Lehr Construction and a member of Local 79. During his career, he renovated numerous buildings in Manhattan including the World Trade Center, Port Authority Bus Terminal and Rockefeller Center before retiring in 2006 and moving to Belmar, NJ.

A former United States Marine, Sokol was a skydiving and scuba instructor and enjoyed other hobbies such as flying, rock climbing, customizing motor cycles and fishing.

He is survived by his loving wife Jane James and his brother, Bruce Sokol.
