Winner Declared in Nassau District Attorney Race

Acting Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas ran against Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray.

Voters on Tuesday elected a new Nassau County district attorney.

Acting Nassau District Attorney Madeline Singas, a Democrat, will return to her position after beating Republican Kate Murray in the county-wide election.

With 97 percent of precincts reporting, Singas has 109,790 votes compared to 80,779 votes for Murray.

Singas previously served as Kathleen Rice’s top deputy. She took over the DA’s position when Rice was elected to Congress last year. Singas is a prosecutor with more than two decades of experience in the courtroom.

Murray has been the Hempstead Town supervisor since 2003.
