Here are the top stories today in Mineola:
- A shocking piece of news in our community: a 39-year-old woman was found dead of obvious gunshot wounds Saturday morning at The Allure in Mineola, an upscale apartment building at 140 Old Country Road. Nassau County police officers reportedly responded to a wellness check at 11:16 a.m. when they found the deceased body of the woman, whose identity has not been released. If you have any additional information, please call the police at 911 or Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. (Mineola Patch)
- Shortly after midnight on Saturday, police were called for an uproar at the Jericho Terrace catering hall on Jericho Turnpike in Mineola and arrested a 29-year-old man from Rhode Island. Police report that they found John Demonte Alarcon acting aggressively and that he assaulted an officer while being arrested. The officer was taken to a local hospital to be treated. (Mineola Patch)
- A man was indicted in Mineola on Friday for the September 2021 murder and robbery of a victim who was lured to Freeport after receiving a $55,000 settlement check. Akeem Chambers, one of four other co-defendants, was on the run for 10 months since the shooting death of James Diamond occurred. He is the fifth person to be indicted for this crime and faces a maximum of 25 years to life in jail. (1010 WINS)
