From swim clinics and school partnerships to jazz concerts, table tennis tournaments, and fall festivals, the center is testing rental models and programming ideas to sustain itself while expanding options for locals of all ages.
   

• Whales have returned to Long Island waters. Albany is responding (greaterlongisland.com) — Montauk hosted Gov. Kathy Hochul this month as she signed the New York Whale Awareness Act, a new law aimed at reducing dangerous encounters between boats and whales in local and statewide waters. The measure folds whale-safety education into boater training and registration, giving Long Island and Montauk boaters practical guidance on slowing down, spotting whale activity, and navigating more safely around these returning giants.
