Kathy Hochul this month as she signed the New York Whale Awareness Act, a new law aimed at reducing dangerous encounters between boats and whales in local and statewide waters. The measure folds whale-safety education into boater training and registration, giving Long Island and Montauk boaters practical guidance on slowing down, spotting whale activity, and navigating more safely around these returning giants.
