📰 News we're reading

• Hither Hills takes a serious hit from weekend nor'easter (news12.com) — Hither Hills State Park's beach in Montauk has lost about five feet of sand after a weekend nor'easter, leaving steep 10- to 15-foot drop-offs where gentle slopes used to be. State parks officials say the damage is unusually severe and are calling for funding and help, while the campground has reopened, so beachgoers should be prepared for changed and potentially hazardous conditions.

• Hamptons Real Estate Market Data – Week of 9/22/2026 (hamptons.com) — Homebuyers and sellers in Montauk are part of a Hamptons market that saw just 23 contracts signed this past week from Westhampton to Montauk, down sharply from last year. Dollar volume also fell year over year, even as it rose compared with 2024, while new listings outpaced contracts, nudging overall inventory higher across all price ranges.

• The East Coast nor'easter is leaving. One man died in Brooklyn. Peak outages hit about 200,000 (investmentwatchblog.com) — Montauk saw a peak wind gust of 81 miles per hour during the recent nor'easter, underscoring how hard the storm hit the East End. The broader system caused one death in Brooklyn, widespread power outages, hundreds of flight cancellations, heavy rain, and serious beach erosion from Atlantic City to New England as it moved off toward the Gulf of Maine and Canada.
