Photos: Montauk Fire Department Holds Drill To Prepare for Worst At Lighthouse
Preparing for the nightmare of a fire at the Montauk Lighthouse, the drill included a rescue of "victims" in the basement.

MONTAUK, NY - What would happen if the Montauk Lighthouse ever caught fire?
Monday evening at dusk, the Montauk Fire Department held a practice drill, in case of a future blaze at the Montauk Lighthouse.

All three "victims" trapped by the "fire," two in the basement, and one at the top of the Lighthouse, were rescued under the guidance of MFD Lieutenant Domingo Schiappacasse of Engine/Rescue Company No. 2.
Under the direction of Chief Joseph Lenahan and Second Assistant Chief Fritz "Dutch" Riege, all three were "rescued" and transported for medical assistance by MFD EMS Company No. 4, led by Lieutenant Scott Pitches.

Since the Lighthouse stairs were dangerous, Ladder Truck 5 was brought to the scene to rescue the victim at the top. The MFD's junior firefighters were on the scene to help, under the guidance of Mickey Valcich.
