17-Year-Old Arrested, 5 Loaded Semiautomatic Guns Seized From Home

MOUNT VERNON, NY — A 17-year-old has been arrested for possessing 5 loaded semiautomatic handguns at home, according to police.

At 5 a.m. on Wednesday, MVPD detectives, the Mount Vernon Emergency Service Unit and the FBI Safe Streets Taskforce arrived at a Mount Vernon residence to investigate a past assault. A search of the residence, conducted in conjunction with that investigation, led to the recovery of five loaded semiautomatic firearms, according to police.

The teen, who is not being named by police, was arrested and charged with attempted assault 1, and several weapons possession counts.

Mount Vernon Police Department Youth Detectives are continuing the investigations. The prosecution is being handled by the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office.

The department said that the Mount Vernon Police Department Intel Unit, Violent Crimes Unit and Wellness, along with the Mount Vernon School District are working together to curb youth violence.
