“Georgia… oh Georgia,” John Legend sang earlier today as Vice President Joe Biden took the lead in votes over President Donald Trump in Georgia.

To the chagrin of the Left, as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi warned, do not celebrate too soon because there are still 19 ways Trump can possibly deny Biden the presidency.

How you might ask?

Easy – Delay, Delay, Delay the certification of elections in battle ground states beyond December 8.

This the hard part - watching the delay process play out over the next 19 business days.

Why is this important?

Because December 8 is the deadline for the states to certify their elections to have their delegates eligible to vote in the Electoral College for President. After that deadline, it becomes a Constitutional question that only the Supreme Court can answer.

This sums up the 19 ways in one way - delay to deny Democracy from taking place. One end of the spectrum sees it as destroying democracy. The other end sees it as saving democracy.

The Democrats and NAACP Legal Defense Fund have been preparing for months to fight back in Court, getting many of the cases dismissed. Yet, according to NBC news, there are 8 active lawsuits still ongoing by the Republicans challenging elections in closely contested races. Each believe they are right.

From a macro-view, this is what we know so far. A recount was announced in Georgia. Pennsylvania, Nevada, and Arizona are still counting votes – albeit slowly. It looks like Vice President Biden will win; however, if the counting process is called into question – which it already has been – and then irregularities may be discovered… it will likely delay the certification of the election. The question is, “Will the certification be delayed beyond the December 8 deadline?”

The mainstream media is trying to play it safe. They are rightfully calling out President Trump for trying to delegitimize the results and demanding evidence to back up his claims of fraud. The Associated Press went so far as to cut the President’s live stream from their platform because they fear the consequences of his words inciting violence.

This is where “We the People,” “We Americans,” must keep it civil. We must not allow passions and emotions to hijack the tenuous situation and devolve into violence of any kind. We must summon that same righteous restraint exercised when Dr. Martin Luther King peacefully led forces to dismantle Jim Crow era policies. This goes for both sides of the political spectrum.

Life is not fair, and as many are witnessing again - elections are not either. For some reason, the system continues to demonstrate that it bends toward the power of money. Yet there are promising examples throughout history, whereby the system is changed for good because of the will of the People. (Most recently, the passage of the City Charter revisions in Mount Vernon being a concrete example of people defeating money power to change the system.)

What we must do to protect democracy is to advocate for the process to be just and transparent. This includes the process of ballot counting to the integrity of the Board of Elections voter files. The details will emerge and the most telling will be data on who was purged before and after the final count.

The belief in our democratic system is at stake. We cannot allow the real enemies of democracy to win by us defeating ourselves. We can and we must work through the twists and turns of the resolution of the Presidential election. Though politically divided, we must remain united in our faith in democracy. Most importantly, we must never forget who we are in the land of the free, home of the brave as the People of the United States of America who advance life, liberty, and relentlessly pursue happiness.
