20-Year-Old Aliyah Waiters Dies After Being Shot On Saturday
The gunman who shot the Mount Vernon woman in the head following a party remains at-large. Police have issued a plea for information.
MOUNT VERNON, NY — The 20-year-old woman who was shot in the head following a party in Mount Vernon has died, Mount Vernon officials announced on Tuesday.
In the early morning Saturday, Aliyah Waiters was shot near South 3rd Avenue and East 4th Street in the city, according to Mount Vernon police. Investigators have been asking for the public's help identifying the shooter who remains at-large.
Tuesday evening, Mount Vernon Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard released the following statement reaction to the tragedy:

"The loss of every life to gun violence is tragic and preventable. Today, Mount Vernon mourns for 20-year-old Aliyah Waiters, whose death comes amid a spike in murders in cities across the country. This hurts, particularly because Mount Vernon has made great strides in the past year to reduce violent crime. Our hearts and prayers go out to the Waiters family and all families impacted by violence in this community.With the help of the public, Mount Vernon will find the shooter and bring them to justice. Our city employs a multi-pronged approach to eliminating gun violence that includes prevention, intervention, restorative justice, diversion, enforcement, and re-entry. We’ll continue fighting to end the scourge of gun violence and ensure the safety of residents, its times like this where Mount Vernon must come together to work for the safe community that we all want and deserve."
Officials said a "Mount Vernon PD" app and a dedicated tips line for text messages will allow those with information about the shooting to provide tips. They will let potential witnesses communicate with investigators anonymously, according to police.

Anyone with information related to this shooting is asked to call 914-665-2510.
Those concerned about anonymity can contact police by using the TIP411 service by texting the number ‘847411’ (TIP411), starting the message with the letters MVPD, followed by the tip.
Those who prefer to use an app instead can download the Mount Vernon PD app by searching for the app in the Apple App Store or Google App Store.
Use of the text service and app are both anonymous and allow two-way communication, police officials said.
