2019 Mount Vernon Primary: What You Need To Know
The primaries will be held Tuesday, June 25.
MOUNT VERNON, NY — The New York primaries are Tuesday. There are two hotly contested races in Mount Vernon, with six people seeking two spots on the Democratic Party line for City Council, and four people seeking the Democratic Party line in the race for mayor.

- Derrick Thompson
None of the mayoral candidates are newcomers. Thomas, the embattled incumbent, wants to keep working on getting the city's sewage problems resolved, reopening Memorial Field, and restoring some function to City Hall. Isley, a former Mount Vernon police commissioner, has the support of the city's Democratic Committee. Patterson-Howard is a former planning commissioner. Andre Wallace is the current City Council president.

There are five members of the City Council including the president. Wallace's and Copeland's terms are up at the end of this year.
