Alleged Gang Member Sentenced In Mount Vernon Shooting

He fired two shots and one hit a passenger in a moving car in the face.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — An alleged gang member will serve time in prison for a shooting in Mount Vernon in 2018 which seriously injured a passenger in a moving car.

Dahjauntay Douglas, 22, pleaded guilty in July to first degree assault, a class B violent felony. State Supreme Court Justice Barry Warhit sentenced the Bronx resident to 12 years in state prison followed by 5 years’ post-release supervision, Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced.

On Oct. 4, 2018, in the early hours of the morning, Douglas fired two shots on Gramatan Avenue near West Sidney Avenue in Mount Vernon. One bullet struck a passenger in a moving vehicle. The victim's face was seriously injured.

Mount Vernon police obtained surveillance footage of the incident and arrested Douglas, who is alleged to be an associate of a North Bronx gang.

The Investigations Division Gang, Firearms and Narcotics Bureau Gang and Firearms Unit prosecuted the case.
