NYC Police Arrest Mount Vernon Woman In Death Of CT Resident Killed In Apparent Medical Procedure Gone Awry

The local resident is facing multiple charges in connection to the 2022 death, according to police.

A Mount Vernon woman was arrested Friday in connection with the 2022 death of a Connecticut woman who was dropped off at a hospital after an apparent botched medical procedure.

New York City police said they have charged Alicia Leslie, 47, of 42 Broad Street West, Mount Vernon, with criminally negligent homicide and unauthorized practice of a profession.

The arrest stems from the death of Maxine Messam, 53, of 400 Birmingham St., Bridgeport.

Police were contacted after Messam was brought to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi on Pelham Parkway on Feb. 15, 2022.

When officers arrived, hospital personnel told them Messam had been dropped off at the hospital, unconscious and unresponsive, by two females.

Messam was pronounced deceased at the hospital. At the time of the incident, police said Messam had multiple apparent injection sites on her buttocks.

Leslie was arraigned Friday in Bronx Supreme Criminal Court and entered a "not guilty" plea. She is due back in court on Nov. 4.

Leslie's attorney, Kyle Watters, could not be reached for comment Thursday.
