Armed Suspect At Station Flees Police On Metro-North Train Tracks

Mount Vernon police chased the suspect Thursday afternoon but were unable to capture him. They are seeking tips from the public.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — For now, a risky move has paid off for an armed suspect attempting to flee the cops.

Mount Vernon Police Violent Crime Unit detectives were involved in the foot pursuit of a man armed with a gun late Thursday afternoon.

At around 3:30 p.m., detectives assigned to the Violent Crime Unit were patrolling the Mount Vernon East Train Station area, on Elm Ave., when they saw a man in possession of what appeared to be a firearm.

The detectives attempted to stop the man but he fled on foot onto the train platform and then onto the train tracks. The detectives pursued but were unable to capture the fleeing suspect.

Mount Vernon Police Department detectives and officers, along with members of the MTA Police Department and an MTA Police K-9 team, searched the area for the suspect and the firearm but were unable to locate either.
