Arrests Made In Fatal Stabbing Of New Rochelle Man, Victim ID'd
Mount Vernon police arrested a 41-year-old man on manslaughter charges and his fiancée on a charge of hindering prosecution in the case.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — Two arrests have been made in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 56-year-old man at New Line Taxi in Mount Vernon, according to police.
Robert Higgins, from New Rochelle, has now been identified as the victim who was found fatally stabbed inside the business.
Shortly before 11 p.m. on Friday, Mount Vernon police were called to New Line Taxi, on East Third Street, for a report of a man stabbed. Initially, the Mount Vernon Fire Department and Empress Ambulance were dispatched to the location for an unresponsive person, but when they arrived, it became clear that the unresponsive man was the victim of violence and requested the Mount Vernon Police Department.

First responders at first believed that Higgins was the victim of a gunshot wound to the chest, but it was later determined that he had actually been stabbed. Higgins was rushed to Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Investigators said it appeared that Higgins had been involved in an altercation with another person in the rear of the taxi stand and that this altercation turned physical and ultimately fatal. Mount Vernon Police Department detectives were assisted by the FBI Westchester Safe Streets Task Force, the Westchester County Police Department Detective Division and the Westchester County Police Real Time Crime Center.

On Sunday , in the early morning hours, Mount Vernon Police detectives, along with members of the FBI Westchester Safe Streets Task Force, arrested Rasheed Binns, a 41-year-old Mount Vernon man, outside his home on N. Bleeker Street in connection with the fatal stabbing. He was scheduled to be arraigned in Mount Vernon City Court on Monday, on the charge of manslaughter in the first degree.
Leah Guy, a 38-year-old Mount Vernon woman and Rasheed Binns' fiancée, has also been arrested in connection with the killing.
She is also scheduled to be arraigned in Mount Vernon City Court on Monday. Guy is facing a charge of hindering prosecution, second degree.
The Mount Vernon Police Department is asking anyone with information about any of the violent incidents this past weekend to contact the MVPD Detective Division at 914-665-2510. Police said all calls will be kept confidential. Anonymous tips can also be sent via the MVPD "Text-A-Tip" by texting "MVPD" and the tip to 8474011.
