Big Memorial Day Plans At St. Paul's Church National Historic Site

In addition to Mount Vernon's traditional parade, St. Paul's Church will host a ceremony, cemetery tour and historic presentations.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — Mount Vernon is pulling out all the stops for the Memorial Day weekend, including a grand celebration at St. Paul's Church National Historic Site.

The City of Mount Vernon will be holding its 2022 Memorial Day Parade on Monday at 10:00 a.m. The parade route will kick off at Park Ave. & 1st St., turn right on W. 3rd St., turn right on S. 4th Ave., continue on Gramatan Ave. and end at Hartley Park.

There will also be a Memorial Day Commemoration at St. Paul's Church National Historic Site, located at 897 S. Columbus Ave. in Mount Vernon. There will be a brief 11 a.m. remembrance service, followed by a tour of the historic cemetery, exploring the history of the veterans buried at the site. At 12:30 p.m., there will be a special presentation about the music and songs of WWII by music historian Robert Cohen. At 2:00 p.m., Park Ranger Michael Callahan will speak about the strange but true story of William Ross, a Mount Vernon resident who flew bomber missions for the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII.
