Broad Street Caves In At Construction Site

It should reopen soon.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — Part of Broad Street caved in Thursday between Fleetwood and Gramatan.

"Thankfully no one was seriously hurt," said Mayor Richard Thomas.

Apparently recent rains helped undermine the roadbed at the plate joint adjacent to the 42 West Broad Street Project. All site work was halted and the contractor complied with the directive from city officials to reinforce the street with the appropriate fill including concrete, which needs to cure.
