MOUNT VERNON, NY — There is some relief in sight for sky-high gas prices, but only if you're lucky enough to live in Mount Vernon.

In response to the fuel crisis that put the pinch on her constituents, Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard has negotiated an innovative public-private partnership to bring what is believed to be the lowest-priced gas in the state, exclusively for Mount Vernon residents.

The unique savings opportunity will allow Mount Vernon residents to receive discounted gas during the "Huge Discount on Gas Blast Off Into Summer Savings" event this Sunday, from 1:30 p.m. - 6 p.m.

"On the eve of our nation's birthday, I'm declaring independence from ridiculous gas prices for Mount Vernon residents," the mayor said in a statement announcing the initiative. "Our public-private partnership delivers real savings at the pump to a community suffering from high fuel prices and inflation. Everyone should come out and fill up. You don't have to stay home this summer. Get out and see this great county of Westchester, this great state of New York, this wonderful country of ours!"

Mount Vernon's partner for the first-of-its-kind event is Mount Vernon-based Atlantis Management Group, which is billed as one of the leading gas service station developers/motor fuel distributors and brokers in the Northeast.

"Our home is Mount Vernon and we're honored to help residents right here in this City, and to partner with Mayor Patterson-Howard to put money back in residents' pocketbooks," CEO of Atlantis Management Group CEO Tumay Basaranlar said. "We believe this will be the start of an important strategic partnership to give back to Mount Vernon and improve the quality of life in the place our company calls home."

The pilot event will take place this Sunday, but Mayor Patterson-Howard plans to continue discussions with Atlantis to extend the discount for Mount Vernon residents past July 3.

Pre-registration will start Wednesday, at 8:30 a.m. on the City of Mount Vernon website or you can download the CMVNY Connect App on the Apple App and Google Play store. Mount Vernon residency is required to receive the savings, along with additional requirements listed on the website.

This event is for the first 200 cars belonging to Mount Vernon residents only. There will be no diesel. The discounted gas event will take place at the BP Gas Station located at 767 S. Columbus Ave. The first check point will be at Edison Ave. and S. Fulton Ave.
