Council President Calls For Mayor Thomas’ Resignation

Roberta Apuzzo, President of the Mount Vernon City Council scheduled a press conference for Wednesday, March 15 to call for the resignation.

“We expect better and we deserve better from our mayor and since it’s obvious, you have no plans to correct your ways, no matter how many opportunities you have been afforded, I believe you should resign,” Councilwoman Apuzzo states, ‘I am voting no confidence in Mayor Thomas and believe he should resign.”

The last straw was the Mayor’s use of social media to furnish misinformation to the public to make baseless accusations against the City Council and Comptroller Walker. Recently, Mayor Thomas joined with Commissioners of Public Safety, Fire, Public Works, Buildings, and Civil Defense filled the office of the Comptroller demanding Comptroller Walker release the payments for the vendor that they have been holding since January.

The mayor released a statement scaring the public that DPW may not be able to properly perform snow removal duties because the Comptroller refused to pay the oil company when in fact the checks were sitting on his desk awaiting his signature.

This follows the loss of several top cops in the MVPD and Commissioner and appointees that have either been fired or resigned. The questionable appointment of Deputy Police Commissioner Spiezio and non-police personnel jeopardizing homicide investigations. Ruling with a retaliatory nature and total disregard for following the rule of law, the City Charter, like not following residency requirements in making his appointments
