Denzel Washington Alumnus Earns The Chadwick Boseman Scholarship
Jayleen Seeburg helped bring Seussical, The Lion King, Jr. and The Wiz to life in Mount Vernon. Now, she's earning more than accolades.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — A former Denzel Washington School of the Arts student who helped bring some of the school's most beloved productions to life is earning more than just applause in recognition of her remarkable talents.
Jayleen Seeburg, a Denzel Washington School of the Arts Class of 2022 graduate, recently earned the Chadwick Boseman Memorial Scholarship at Howard University, the City of Mount Vernon School District announced Wednesday. The scholarship covers her four years of study.
Seeburg was a technical theater major at the Denzel Washington school where she was the stage manager for Principal Evelyn Collins' theatrical productions. She also performed in "Seussical," "The Lion King, Jr." and "The Wiz."

Seeburg is currently studying technical theater in her first year at Howard University.
"I’m quite proud of Jayleen and the legacy she left for aspiring technical theatre majors at Denzel Washington School of the Arts," said Collins. "I assisted her with the application process for admission to Howard University because she is that good."
