DPW Employee Fatally Stabbed In Workplace Violence: Report

Police say a Mt. Vernon man, found on the ground after suffering several stab wounds, died. He is believed to have been a city worker.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — Workplace violence has taken the life of a Mount Vernon Public Works Department (DPW) employee, according to multiple reports.

A city employee stabbed another DPW worker to death on East Third Street, according to Mount Vernon News Center. The news site reports that the stabbing is believed to have been in retaliation for another stabbing earlier in the day on Friday.

After answering emergency calls about the assault, police discovered the victim nearby and took him to the hospital, where he later died. Investigators have not released the name of the victim or the suspect.

“The city of Mount Vernon is mourning," Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard told News 12 Westchester. "This is a devastating loss. We are praying for all of those involved.”

Police told The Westchester Journal News they were withholding the dead man's identity until his family can first be notified. Anyone with information about the stabbing is asked to call the detective division of Mount Vernon police at 914-665-2510.
