Elementary School Temporarily Closed After SUV Crashes Into Building
Yonkers police said that the accident happened before school started for the day and there were no injuries to students or staff.

YONKERS, NY — School officials scrambled to re-route students on their way to Yonkers Public School 9 after an SUV crashed into the kitchen.
Early Tuesday morning, a driver lost control of their vehicle, and it struck the Waring Avenue side of Public School 9, according to Yonkers police. The walls of the building at the cafeteria's kitchen were damaged.
The crash happened before school started for the day. No students or staff were injured. The driver, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was treated for minor injuries from the crash. This incident is being investigated as a motor vehicle accident, and no criminal charges are expected.

School officials said students are being re-routed and transported to Roosevelt High School at 631 Tuckahoe Road to attend their first day of classes after the holiday weekend. Parents and guardians arranging pickup of their children at the end of the school day should go to the high school rather than PS 9. Students taking the bus will be picked up at Roosevelt and brought to their normal drop-off locations.
