Gang Task Force Arrests New Philadelphia Man On Felony Gun Charges

State troopers, part of the Violent Gang and Narcotics Enforcement Team, pulled over the 2021 Mercedes-Benz he was a passenger in.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — State police say an illegal gun is off the streets in Mount Vernon thanks to a special focus in areas of gang and drug activity.

On January 10, the New York State Police Violent Gang and Narcotics Enforcement Team arrested Jonathan T. Bellard, age 21, of New Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for felony criminal possession of a weapon and felony criminal possession of a firearm.

At approximately 7 p.m., troopers stopped 2021 Mercedes-Benz on South First Avenue in Mount Vernon for traffic violations. The passenger, Jonathan Bellard was illegally in possession of a FN model 502 .22 caliber handgun, according to police.

Bellard was arraigned before the city of Mount Vernon Court with the assistance of the Mount Vernon Police Department and released on his own recognizance.
