Hazardous Weather Outlook for Mount Vernon Friday

It’s finally here in full effect, the heat wave you’ve been hearing about for almost a week now.

Yes, temperatures will be in the 90s, and yes, it will be humid, but there is also severe weather predicted in the forecast on Friday, too.

The entire lower Hudson Valley is under a “Hazardous Weather Outlook” for Friday for strong to severe thunderstorms Friday afternoon and early evening. The main threat is large hail and damaging wind gusts, according to the National Weather Service.

Once we get past today’s thunderstorms, it will be a sunny weekend, but very hot with temps continuing in the low to mid 90s.

Here is the forecast from the National Weather Service for southern Westchester County:

• Today: Scattered showers and thunderstorms after noon. Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Mostly sunny, with a high near 92. Heat index values as high as 96. Southwest wind 9 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
• Tonight: Scattered showers and thunderstorms before 2am, then isolated showers. Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Patchy fog after 2am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. West wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
• Saturday: Patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 94. West wind 7 to 11 mph.
• Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 68. Northwest wind 3 to 8 mph.
• Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 91. North wind 6 to 8 mph.
• Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 71.
