At about 10:20 p.m. Sept. 24, 2016, Carl was driving a 2004 Mitsubishi registered to his mother recklessly at a high speed in the vicinity of Riverdale Avenue in Yonkers. A Yonkers Police Department patrol car activated lights and sirens in an attempt to pull over the vehicle. At that time, Carl sped up and drove across the Bronx line. Yonkers officers did not pursue him outside of Yonkers at that time.

About 10 minutes later, Carl re-entered Yonkers in the same car. Police patrol cars followed him into a parking lot at Water Grant Street where Carl turned his vehicle facing the two police cars. The officers ordered him to stop. At that point, Carl accelerated in their direction. The police officers were able to jump out of the way, narrowly escaping being run over.
His vehicle struck the police cruisers, damaging both, then Carl sped away. He then led Yonkers police officers on a high-speed chase into the Bronx onto the Major Deegan Expressway (I-87). He subsequently crashed and flipped his car over onto its hood near the Willis Avenue Bridge.
Carl was arrested, taken to the hospital, and placed in custody. After the crash, police found drugs inside the vehicle.
Assistant District Attorney Julia Cornachio, Bureau Chief of the Vehicular Crimes Bureau, prosecuted the case.
