Ice Bucket Challenge Makes A Splash In Yonkers
The annual event features hundreds of participants plus one of the silly fundraiser's co-founders.

Yonkers hosted the annual ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Saturday at Empire City Casino to raise awareness for ALS research. Co-host was Yonkers native Pat Quinn—who was diagnosed with ALS more than five years ago and co-founded the global phenomenon.
“Thank you to everyone who participated in another successful Ice Bucket Challenge at Empire City," said Mayor Mike Spano. "Pat Quinn’s courageous fight against ALS inspires us all and we’ll be here every August supporting “Quinn For The Win” until we have a cure.”
“This is always a special day. It's a reminder to people that we are still fighting this ruthless disease," Quinn said. "The support from the city of Yonkers has been incredible. Today doesn't happen without the support of our Mayor Mike Spano and his staff, Yonkers city council members, and our generous host Empire City Casino. ALS has no cure. We must continue to rally around this cause until people are living with ALS, not just dying from it.”

Money raised by the Ice Bucket Challenge around the world has led to advances in research and new technology that also helped Quinn regain his voice after losing it last year.
Taryn Duffy, Director of Public Affairs for Empire City Casino said: “Thank you Pat Quinn and Quinn for the Win, Mayor Spano, and all of the Ice Bucket Challenge participants for joining us at Empire City Casino. We’re honored to be part of the fight against ALS and will continue to support the Ice Bucket Challenge every August until a cure.”
