Jeep Kills Pedestrian, Crashes
Yonkers Avenue was cordoned off at the accident scene for several hours Thursday.

YONKERS, NY — A pedestrian was killed by an SUV Thursday in Yonkers. Police called to the vicinity of 63 Yonkers Ave. at 5:35 p.m. found a person lying in the street and a Jeep lying on its side in the westbound lane.
The pedestrian, a 62-year-old Yonkers resident, was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Jeep, a 35-year-old city resident, was also transported to a local hospital where she was treated for minor injuries.
That section of Yonkers Avenue was cordoned off for several hours during the investigation.

Detectives from the Major Case Squad and the Crime Scene Unit, and Accident Investigators also interviewed witnesses, canvassed for and reviewed video surveillance, and collected evidence.
Preliminary investigation concludes that the Jeep was traveling westbound on Yonkers Avenue, at which time it struck the pedestrian, who was crossing the street. The Jeep then struck a parked vehicle, and rolled over on its side. There are no criminal charges pending for the driver of the vehicle at this time. The investigation is ongoing, police said.
