Ken Jenkins: Campaign Should Be About Common Sense, not Rob Astorino’s “Alternative Facts”

Cites Astorino's 2010 veto of Jenkins-sponsored tax cut

Following George Latimer's press conference with Westchester families whose taxes have gone up under Rob Astorino, the County Executive called such claims lies despite actual tax bills showing the increases. Democrat Ken Jenkins, who immediately endorsed Latimer following their primary, called out Astorino’s duplicity, pointing out that not only has Rob Astorino raised taxes, he actually vetoed a tax cut in 2010 that Jenkins developed to help Westchester property taxpayers.

"Everyone knows their taxes have gone up, but Rob keeps using ‘alternative facts’ instead of telling the truth about his tax hikes,” said Jenkins. “In 2010, the Board of Legislators passed a 2% property tax cut, only to see it vetoed by Astorino. We got Rob’d then and we’re getting Rob’d now. He can’t lie his way around it.”

With Westchester residents facing the highest property taxes in the nation, Latimer called for honest and respectful debate instead of Astorino’s lies and insults.

“Rob didn’t have to veto Ken’s tax cuts, but he did. That’s a fact. From 2011 to 2017, taxes went up all over Westchester County - property taxes, sewer taxes, garbage taxes and more,” said Latimer. “These may be inconvenient truths for Astorino, but acting like Donald Trump and insulting the voters for telling the truth is unacceptable. He needs to show more respect for the people who pay his salary."
