Local Unions Recruiting for Construction Craft Laborer Apprentices

MOUNT VERNON, NY — Two unions are looking for construction craft labor apprentices in Columbia, Dutchess, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties:
1. The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Laborers, Local Union #235 based in Westchester, will conduct a recruitment from Aug. 29, 2016 through Aug. 25, 2017 for four skilled construction craft laborer apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.
Please note that the four openings listed for apprentices represent the total number for two recruitment regions, the Capital District and Hudson Valley regions. This program’s jurisdiction includes the counties of Columbia, Dutchess, Putnam, and Westchester.

Applications can be obtained at Local Union #235, 41 Knollwood Road, Elmsford, NY, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.
The Committee requires that applicants:

- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED).
- Must be physically able to perform the work required of a laborer.
- Must submit to physical exams as required by federal regulations for hazardous waste and asbestos removal.
- Must have reliable transportation to and from work sites and related instruction classes.
- Must pass a drug test, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to indenture.
- Must provide military transfer card or discharge form DD-214, if applicable, after selection and prior to indenture.
2. The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Laborers Local #754 based in Rockland County will conduct recruitment from Sept. 13, 2016 through Oct. 13, 2016 for five skilled construction craft laborer apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced.
Applications can be obtained at the Local Union #754, 215 Old Nyack Turnpike, Chestnut Ridge, NY from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. Applications must be completed on site. The Committee requires that applicants:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED).
- Must have reliable transportation to and from work and related instruction.
- Must pass a drug test, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to indenture.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
