Memorial Field, Sewers and Quality of Life in Mount Vernon

FRIDAY October 12, 2018 (New York) Today Mayor Thomas made his weekly appearance on the Gassy Show “Gloves On, Gloves Off” hosted by Father Gassy to speak on the dire issues that is plaguing Mount Vernon continuously. They both spoke passionately of these issues especially those concerning our youth and seniors. It is his obligation as a father and our obligation as a community to take care of each other. It is much easier to build a strong child than to fix a broken man. Baseball for example went up to 30 kids in the league to know over 350 kids joining the league since he became mayor. The league also has developed partnerships with Major League Baseball and many other organizations that didn’t trust Mount Vernon. This is a major sign that Mount Vernon is getting the right structure in place to support our kids but to also build our community.

Mayor Thomas also spoke of the crisis of the sewers on 7th Av and 3rd St. The smell is deplorable and the major is faced with obstacles from City Council to solve this problem. There are members of City Council that call the sewer problem a myth. How does the Mayor get approval from City Council to fix it? How do you get the money to pay contractors and equipment? We see the problem and came up with a plan of action, but it costs money to hire contractors, get equipment and experts to check the sewers. Our bills have been stacked up because the Comptroller refuses to pay them. How do we get credibility from vendors that we rely on to help us if they haven’t been paid in months? This is why things are held up. There are two different parts of obstructions going on. On one level you get no authorization to use the money to help and on the other when there is authorization, it’s not processed.

People are wrapped up in the story, the drama and look at the lie because its more entertaining than the truth. This is why Mayor Thomas keeps fighting the good fight for the people of Mount Vernon.
