More Than 50 Cars Impounded In Crackdown On Fake License Plates
Westchester County and Yonkers police targeted parked cars with expired, illegal or forged paper license plates.

YONKERS, NY — "Operation Clean Plate" resulted in more than 50 cars being impounded by county and city police over the weekend.
The Yonkers Police Department and Westchester County Police Department said they targeted improperly registered vehicles with expired, unlawful, or fake paper license plates throughout Yonkers, overnight Sunday. In addition to the 50 vehicles impounded, police said dozens of summonses were issued.
Officials said many of the cars impounded owed substantial fines for parking and traffic camera violations, amounting to tens of thousands of dollars in total. Vehicles with illegal registrations are also closely tied to quality-of-life complaints, including aggressive driving, noise pollution, and parking violations, law enforcement authorities said in a statement announcing the sting.
