UPDATE: Statement from Mount Vernon on Shooting in the Bronx
The driver rammed a Mount Vernon police car. He's in NYPD custody for a multi-jurisdictional investigation.

UPDATE 2:41 p.m.: The Mount Vernon Police Department released a statement from Acting Deputy Chief Roy Hastings on the incident involving a police pursuit from Mount Vernon into the Bronx.
“Today at approximately 9:03am, Mount Vernon Police Officers initiated a traffic stop at Fulton Avenue and 4thStreet in Mount Vernon. The vehicle’s driver was uncooperative with the officers who were attempting to conduct the stop and fled the scene. Mount Vernon Police officers then pursued the driver into the Bronx into the area of 233rd Street and Bronx Boulevard. The driver initially attempted to evade officers, driving northbound. The driver then changed direction and intentionally rammed a Mount Vernon Police Department vehicle leading to Mount Vernon Police officers discharging their weapons.
The driver was apprehended at the scene after a struggle. An officer sustained minor injuries in the struggle and received medical treatment. A female passenger in the vehicle sustained a non-life-threatening injury to the shoulder. She was taken to Jacobi Hospital for treatment.
This is a multi-jurisdictional investigation due to the location of the incident. The New York City Police Department, the Mount Vernon Police Department, and the Bronx District Attorney’s Office are coordinating efforts. Charges are pending against the driver and further details will be released as they become available.”
MOUNT VERNON, NY — City police involved in a car chase shot a passenger in a Chevy Malibu after it crashed into another car in the Bronx, according to news reports.
The New York Daily News said the Mount Vernon police opened fire near E. 234th Street and Bronx Boulevard at about 9:15 a.m. They were trying to capture the driver, a known felon, the paper said. When they pulled him over, he accelerated, hit a Mount Vernon police officer and sped off across the Bronx border.

At least one Mount Vernon officer were hurt at the scene. The passenger, a woman, was taken to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx with non-life threatening injuries. The driver is being held by NYPD.
