Mount Vernon and Feeding Westchester Partnership

Providing 1,000 Families with Turkey Dinners for Thanksgiving

Today at the Dole Center, Mayor Thomas announced the donation of 1,000 turkeys that will be distributed to Mount Vernon's neediest families in time for Thanksgiving.

The turkeys are being donated thanks to funds from Mount Vernon's Community Development Block Grants and will be distributed by Feeding Westchester to 13 food pantries across the city. In addition to turkeys, the meals include all the fixings and side dishes needed to make a traditional Thanksgiving dinner.

"This effort speaks to the full meaning of Thanksgiving - giving thanks for our blessings and sharing those blessings with others," said Mayor Thomas. "This is a great example of the city's public private partnership with Feeding Westchester where we are bringing our resources together to feed those in need - in particular with a turkey dinner for 1,000 families on Thanksgiving."

"The holidays are a particular difficult time for families in need here in Westchester," said Leslie Gordon, President & CEO, Feeding Westchester. "We are grateful to be able to work with our agency partners to provide meals that families in Mount Vernon can enjoy together during this season of giving."
