Mount Vernon Goes 'Beyond The Bell' This School Year

The "After the Bell" and "Beyond the Bell" after-school programs mean there's plenty of fun and learning opportunities after dismissal.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — There are plenty of reasons to be excited about heading back to school, but in Mount Vernon, heading back to the classroom is just the start of the fun and learning opportunities.

The Mount Vernon Recreation Department will host "After The Bell," an after-school program for kids in grades K to 6. Students can create arts & crafts, play games and participate in team-building sports. The program will meet weekdays from 3 p.m to 6 p.m. at Holmes School and Pennington School.

The first session of the program starts September 11, and ends December 1. The program fee is $450.

The Recreation Department will also host "Beyond The Bell," offering open gym and recreational activities from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday at Steam Academy High School. This program is for students in grades 7 and up.

The program is free to all residents. Registration is required on-site. The first session of this program will be from September 11 to December 21.
