Mount Vernon High School Hosts Successful College Fair
Students learned about schools open across the nation at the 2nd annual College Fair held in the gym at Mount Vernon High School.

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. - Mount Vernon High School students looking to learn more about colleges didn’t have to look far this fall. On October 14, M.V.H.S. held its 2nd annual College Fair right in the gymnasium.
The fair was a tremendous success, drawing 103 representatives from more than 100 colleges, universities, military institutions and technical schools. Students went from table to table, collecting information and inquiring about their schools of interest.

Marci Tiggs, the District’s Standards Administrator for Guidance, organized the event. She said 80 schools attended last year so 103 attendees this year was a significant increase.
“Kids can’t aspire to somewhere they don’t know exists,” said Tiggs. “This is an opportunity to expose our students to colleges from across the country in one location. It also instills in them the idea that ‘we believe in you’.”

Attendees included Ivy League Schools and universities from other parts of the country like Indiana’s Purdue University.
