Mount Vernon Man Faces Felony Weapons Charge

The winter coat was a giveaway.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — Acting on a tip, Westchester County and Mount Vernon detectives arrested a Mount Vernon man on Thursday evening after finding him in possession of a loaded 9 mm handgun.

Detectives from the two departments were working on a joint investigation in the city at 5 p.m. when information was received about a man who was possibly in possession of a gun on East Third Street near Tecumseh Avenue.

Detectives observed a man wearing a zipped-up winter jacket despite the warm temperatures and further observed a bulging object in one of the pockets when they approached him.

They subsequently recovered a loaded High Point 9mm handgun and took the man into custody.

Corey Kirby, 28, of Beechwood Avenue was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, a felony. He was booked at county police headquarters and held overnight. He was arraigned in Mount Vernon City Court today and bail was set at $25,000.
