Mount Vernon Man Guilty In Fatal Shooting Of Man He Met To Fight

MOUNT VERNON, NY — A Mount Vernon man who shot and killed a man he had argued with before agreeing to meet to fight has entered a guilty plea to manslaughter charges.

Johnathan Jeanty pleaded guilty to first degree felony manslaughter on Sept. 15, according to Westchester County District Attorney Miriam Rocah. He now faces a sentence range from a minimum of five years to a maximum to 25 years in prison.

In the early morning hours of April 12, 2020, following an earlier argument, the 22-year-old met up with Yonkers resident Tremell Robinson to settle their differences on First Avenue in Mount Vernon, but what started as a meeting to fight left the 24-year-old dead, after Jeanty fatally shot Robinson.

According to prosecutors, both men had weapons and Robinson was shot one time. He was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Mount Vernon police arrested Jeanty four days later on April 16.

Jeanty is scheduled to be sentenced on January 6.
