Mount Vernon Men Busted on I-87
Police said they stopped the car for vehicle and traffic violations but then established probable cause for a search.

Two Mount Vernon men face charges in the Mid-Hudson Valley after a traffic stop on the New York State Thruway. At about 10:46 p.m. Friday, state police said they stopped a vehicle on I-87 in the town of Newburgh for multiple vehicle and traffic violations.
Police said that as they interviewed the driver Andre V. Dasilva, 21, for those violations, they established probable cause to search the vehicle and its occupants.
During the search of the vehicle and passenger Melvin U. Sanchez, 19, police said they found about 3 grams of cocaine and about 28 grams of marijuana.

Both men were taken into custody, transported and processed at SP Newburgh, where they were charged with:
- Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 5th degree; a Class D Felony (cocaine) 2 counts
- Criminal Possession of Marihuana 5th degree; a Class B Misdemeanor 2 counts
- Vehicle and Traffic Violations (Dasilva only)
Both men were arraigned in the town of Newburgh Court and sent to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $500. cash or $ 2000 bond.
