Mount Vernon PD Investigates Fatal Fall From Window As Likely Suicide

This afternoon, police received a report of a person falling from an upper floor of a building on Mount Vernon Avenue.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — The Mount Vernon Police Department said that detectives are investigating a death that appears to be a suicide.

Shortly before 3 p.m. on Friday, Mount Vernon police received a report of a person falling from a window at 130 Mount Vernon Ave.

Officers arriving on the scene found the person on the ground, lifeless.

Investigators believe that the person intentionally jumped from the window. Detectives said that criminal behavior is not suspected.

The victim's name is not being released until the family has been notified.

The Mount Vernon Police Department is asking that anyone with information about this tragic incident to contact the Detective Division at 914-665-2510. Police said calls will be kept confidential. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through "Text-A-Tip," by texting "MVPD" and the tip to 847411.


According to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, if you or someone you know exhibits warning signs of suicide:

  • Do not leave the person alone.
  • Remove any firearms, alcohol, drugs or sharp objects that could be used in a suicide attempt.
  • Call the U.S. National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-TALK (8255).
  • Take the person to an emergency room or seek help from a medical or mental health professional.
