Mount Vernon Police Fish For Leads In Water Department Heist
The brazen thieves burgled the Mount Vernon City Hall office, just across the street from the police station.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — Police are asking the public's help in uncovering who was behind a burglary at a City of Mount Vernon public office on Wednesday.
The Mount Vernon Police Department is investigating the burglary of the Board of Water Supply in Mount Vernon City Hall at One Roosevelt Square. Police did not reveal if there are suspects in the unusual crime or what, if anything, was taken from the office.
The Board of Water Supply owns and maintains approximately 105 miles of mains and 1,140 fire hydrants, according to the city. Its primary responsibility is to provide an adequate supply of safe, potable water for domestic, industrial and fire-fighting purposes. The board is also responsible for reading water meters and billing customers.
