Mount Vernon Police Investigating 'Suspicious Death' Of 79-Year-Old

Unusual circumstances, including evidence of unexplained injuries, have police taking a closer look at the home death, officials said.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — Major Case detectives are investigating a suspicious death that was reported late on Tuesday.

Shortly before 11 p.m., Mount Vernon police were called to Franklin Avenue for a report of an unresponsive man. Officers were directed to a dead man in a second-floor bedroom. The man was identified as 79-year-old John McGhee, of Mount Vernon.

During the preliminary investigation, certain circumstances that appeared unusual were discovered, including some unexplainable injuries on the body of McGhee, police officials said.

Mount Vernon police are asking anyone with information about the case to contact the MVPD Detective Division at 914-665-2510. All calls will be kept confidential, according to officials. Tips can also be submitted anonymously via the MVPD "Text-A-Tip" by texting "MVPD" and the tip to 847411.
